Directions to Underdog from OR Tambo International Airport.

When you leave the Johannesburg Airport you will need to follow the Johannesburg / R24 signage; they are busy working at the airport at present so there is lots of traffic diversion due to construction. Just follow the Johannesburg signage for now.

Keep following the R24 in a Westerly Direction (it should actually say R24 W on the side of the highway in direction signage).

The road will eventually (after about 8 minutes drive) swing slightly to the right at a fly over and then merge with the N12. Keep going, but stay left at this point as you will go the N3/N12 SOUTH. (Basically the right most lane at this point says Johannesburg R24 still, the middle lanes says N3 Pretoria, and the extreme two left lanes are N3 SOUTH and say Johannesburg with a City Centre Circle, this is where you want to go.) To this point should take you about 10 minutes with little traffic from the airport.

Now you proceed down the N3 SOUTH for a short while (about 3-5 minutes) and you will clearly see a turnoff to the LEFT marked M2 Johannesburg / Germiston. As you take the off-ramp, stay to the RIGHT hand side, heading for the - M2 Johannesburg. (The other way is M2 to Germiston, and if you do go there by accident, you can quite quickly turn around by turning right at the T-Junction with Refinery and then right again to double back). Now you are on the M2 highway, which passes by the SOUTHERN side of the Johannesburg CBD. At first you will only see mine dumps and industrial areas, but within 5 minutes you should see the CBD of Johannesburg to your right. You will be on a multi-lane flyway at this point with several turn-offs. As you see the busiest section of town, you will also see several direction markers in front of you at once. Take the middle / left lane, labelled "M1 NORTH to Sandton / Pretoria". This one is quite important as to get back on from any of the other roads takes some time. You will now be on a DOUBLE DECKER highway on the lower level along side of the Johannesburg CBD heading NORTH.

Now be EXTRA careful... you will pass by an off-ramp called SMIT street, and then AS you see the double-decker part of the highway end, and the upper level of the highway come back to your level from the right, stay left and WATCH OUT, as the EMPIRE Road /M71 turn off literally sneaks up on you, and is not well sign posted. EMPIRE M71 is what you want to take to your LEFT and STAY left as you want to merge left into EMPIRE ROAD. As you do however, move to the middle lane as soon as possible, as the two left lanes soon move off towards Barry Hertzog, and you DONT want to go there. Keep going straight, which will again mean keep in the middle lane to cross over Barry Hertzog.

Soon after this you will T-Junction with a road called Kingsway / Annet, and you will see a LARGE 28 floor grey building ahead of you. This is the SABC Radio Park. You want to turn RIGHT onto Kingsway. Two Traffic Lights down, you will see Lothbury Road to your RIGHT and COOKHAM to your left. You will know this is the right road because to your RIGHT ahead will be the ABSA Bank Customer care Centre, a fairly large yellow face brick building. Turn RIGHT into Lothbury. This road soon moves into a quaint area with shops and many restaurants... and actually becomes a road called 7th Street Melville. As it does you will see the roads are called, 1st Ave, 2nd Ave etc. Underdog is in 3rd Ave so you want to turn RIGHT into 3rd. On your left will be a very popular Vietnamese restaurant called "SOI", and to your right is a restaurant called "Sakura Sushi”. As soon as you have turned RIGHT, Underdog is the FIRST house on the RIGHT immediately behind “Sakura Sushi”, at No 92. We have Off Street parking, so please use the intercom for access. The entire trip will take between 35 and 45 minutes.

Directions to Underdog from Sandton.

From Sandton head on the M1 South using Grayston Drive you would turn right at the highway and then right onto the M1 South.

Once on the M1 South, you will proceed for about 10-15 minutes depending on traffic, and as you see the St. Andrews Road off-ramp, stay left and slow down. You will very soon pass the Jan Smuts off-ramp, and now need to MERGE to the left with an on-ramp, so that you can turn off at the EMPIRE ROAD / M71 off-ramp. You need to turn RIGHT into EMPIRE, and immediately move to the MIDDLE lane.
