Underdog - The Production Company

Underdog, a new era multimedia and entertainment company, was formed in 1993. Its aim: to produce creative, innovative and challenging film, television and interactive entertainment brands for South Africa and the world.

Since then, Underdog has completed various award-winning television documentaries, corporate productions, interactive web sites and promotional television and print campaigns. Underdog's film work has been broadcast in North America and screened at film festivals in cities such as New York, London, Sydney, Toronto, Austin, Washington and Rio de Janeiro.

In addition Underdog's award winning client service division, 'Underdog Digital', currently services and consults on the Interactive and Online needs of a wide range of corporate clients. Most notably Underdog is the content creator for the Big Brother SA and Big Brother Africa websites.

Other highlights have included the production of the acclaimed, award-winning documentary Metamorphosis: The Remarkable Journey of Granny Lee in 2000 which was recently broadcast on Canadian television. In 1998 the two-hour television documentary Death (distributed internationally) won three prestigious awards, including Gold in the documentary category of South Africa's equivalent of the Emmy Awards. It was also one of the highest rated local documentaries in South African history. In 2000 Underdog completed the two-part documentary By Night for SABC 3.The year 2004 saw the production and successful broadcast of Flush, a documentary looking at toilets and the people that use them, as well as Two Moms, which profiled the struggle for a lesbian couple to co-adopt their children.
