GRANNY LEE'S DISCO HITS OF THE 70'S AND 80'S

Underdog Entertainment is pleased to announce the release of a CD music compilation inspired by the documentary, Metamorphosis: The Remarkable Journey of Granny Lee, which explores the life of Johannesburg's most outrageous and notorious drag party-animal, Granny Lee.

In what is believed to be the first project of its kind in South Africa, Granny Lee's Disco Hits of the 70's and 80's is released by Universal/Value Music in association with SABC 3 and Underdog Entertainment in conjunction with the broadcast of the documentary Metamorphosis.

"It really made sense to do this", says the director of Metamorphosis, Luiz DeBarros, "Granny Lee was first and foremost a notorious clubgoer and party animal. I couldn't imagine Granny Lee or the documentary without the disco music that surrounded her every appearance. These songs are literally the soundtrack to her life".

"This project also allowed us to use some of these key, memorable songs in the documentary itself which otherwise would have been extremely costly" explains producer Marc Schwinges.

The forty tracks selected for the double CD compilation are a veritable archive of chart hits from the seventies and eighties and include; Hot Stuff (Donna Summer), I will Survive (Gloria Gaynor), Staying Alive (Bee Gees), Le Freak (Chic), I Love the Nightlife (Alicia Bridges) and Heart of Glass (Blondie) among many others .

"We hope that this compilation will allow people the opportunity to relive both the documentary as well as the era which it represents," says Luiz, "it's a memorable and fun step back into the groovy disco era".

Granny Lee's Disco Hits of the 70's and 80's will be available in record stores around the country from the 25th of July 2000.

Metamorphosis: The Remarkable Journey of Granny Lee is a 52-minute documentary exploring the life of one of South Africa's most outrageous characters directed by award-winning director Luiz DeBarros and produced by Underdog Entertainment. Metamorphosis will be broadcast on the 30th of July 2000 on SABC 3 at 9.00pm.
